Jean Coutu joins Air Miles Canada as retail partner

Alliance Data Systems' Loyalty Group has signed a multi-year agreement with Quebec-based pharmaceutical retailer, Jean Coutu Group, appointing the firm as the latest retail sponsor for Air Miles Canada.

Alliance Data Systems (ADS), which provides marketing, credit, and transaction services, says the retailer will offer the Air Miles reward programme in its 248 stores throughout the province of Quebec.

"The addition of Jean Coutu as an Air Miles sponsor underscores our commitment to growing the programme in geographic regions and categories throughout Canada," explained John Scullion, CEO for Alliance Data's Loyalty Group. "By signing Jean Coutu, we have filled the critical, high-frequency pharmacy category which, along with petroleum, supermarket, and financial services, is a key underpinning the entire Air Miles programme."

Background Air Miles Canada is a coalition loyalty programme which currently enjoys market penetration of over 60% of Canadian households, representing some 12.5 million individuals who actively collect Air Miles.

The programme's reward miles can be collected through more than 100 brand-name sponsors, covering more than 12,000 retail and service locations across the country. Collected miles can be redeemed for more than 500 different rewards, including travel, movie tickets, entertainment attractions, and electronic merchandise.

The Jean Coutu Group's CEO, Francois Coutu, commented: "Joining the Air Miles reward programme is in keeping with our vision and long-term development plan to strengthen and enhance our network's growth opportunities."
