MasterCard's print-it-yourself internet coupons

MasterCard holders in the US are to be offered savings of up to 50% at local merchants through an internet-based print-it-yourself coupon programme, available through MasterCard's web site. The programme is being run in conjunction with Entertainment Publications, a global marketer of coupon books, discounts and merchant promotions.

Entertainment Publishing is best known for its flagship product, the Entertainment Book, which contains numerous 50% off and 2-for-1 offers from local and national restaurants, hotels and other leisure activity merchants. And MasterCard International has now formed the new strategic alliance with Entertainment in order to provide similar deals at a local level for its cardholders across the US.

Using its database of offers from more than 100,000 merchants in 161 North American markets, the firm is to provide MasterCard with customised discount programmes aimed at customer acquisition, retention and loyalty.

Self-printed coupons The specific programme that MasterCard will use is called Entertainment Local Connections, through which online customers can select and print coupons for their favourite restaurants, leisure activities, hotels and other merchants, whether in the local area or in places they will be visiting later.

Access to Local Connections is through MasterCard's web site, and requires registration - at which point members are allowed to print a limited number of coupons. The coupons currently on offer include discounts at restaurants, tourist attractions, movies and theatre, shopping, theme parks, sporting events, and hotels.

Jennifer Lavelli, vice president of interactive marketing for MasterCard International, said, "We decided to partner with Entertainment because the programme allows us to reward our customers across North America at a local level, so cardholders can save money with their neighbourhood merchants."
