More evidence that mobile payment providers view loyalty programmes as the "killer app" for adoption and usage: Samsung Electronics America announced last week that Samsung Pay will now support membership features that provide Samsung Pay users withdirect access to merchant membership and loyalty cards to receive savings, rewards and other offers on their supported Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

With the new feature, Samsung Pay lets users access all of their merchant membership and loyalty cards from one application on supported Samsung Galaxy smartphones. Users can upload and store merchant membership and loyalty cards in Samsung Pay - including from their gym, drug store, grocery store or any of their favorite retailers. Samsung Pay's new membership feature can also be used to store other cards such as insurance and personal identification cards. To use membership or loyalty cards, users launch the Samsung Pay app, select the appropriate card, and scan the card's barcode at the register.

Even though Samsung is a little late to the party when it comes to loyalty programme integration, Samsung Galaxy users will no doubt enjoy the added functionality and convenience of accessing their favorite programmes through their phones. Will this move spark another round of competition between competing payment platforms? Stay tuned.
