26th Annual Freddie Awards: Marriott, Southwest among winners

The venerable Freddie Awards celebrated their 26th year of annointing the top travel loyalty programmes in Las Vegas last week. The winners, chosen by frequent travelers, voted Marriott, Southwest and Air France/KLM among the top winners for their loyalty programmes at this year’s awards ceremony. Other winners included Hyatt, American Airlines and El Al. Winners are based on the results of three million ballots cast annually and are divided by regions including the Americas, Europe and Africa, and Middle East, Asia and Oceania.

Air France/KLM and Le Club Accor Hotels were also big winners, taking home five Freddie Awards each for Europe and Africa. Southwest Airlines also broke American Airlines’ four-year winning streak, taking the award for programme of the Year for the Americas. Marriott won loyalty programme of the year for the ninth consecutive year.

The Freddie awards are named after Sir Freddie Laker, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1978 for his contribution to commercial aviation and the British economy.
