Kennel Club offers dog-friendly loyalty credit card
The American Kennel Club (AKC) and Bank One have launched the new 'AKC Rewards Visa' affinity credit card, offering animal lovers the ability to earn a 1% rebate on their credit card purchases.
The card, which has no annual fee attached, offers one point for every US$1 spent using the card regardless of where the card is used. Each time 2,500 points are accumulated, cardmembers can redeem those points for a US$25 cheque, gift card, or gift certificate for use in pet retail stores and selected merchants (including fuel, dining, and other retailers).
"Dog lovers across the country will see the benefits of having and using the AKC Rewards Visa card," said Noreen Baxter, the American Kennel Club's vice president of communications. "Cardmembers can use the card, earn points for their pets, and feel good about supporting the many American Kennel Club programmes dedicated to the health and well-being of dogs."
Existing card upgraded Since 1995, the AKC and Bank One have jointly offered a credit card through which a contribution is made to the AKC after each card purchase. With the new AKC Rewards Visa card, a contribution will continue to be made to the AKC after each card purchase to promote and support responsible dog ownership, canine health research, recovery of lost pets, and public education.
Existing AKC cardmembers are being given the option to participate in the AKC Rewards Visa card programme, while new cardmembers will automatically receive the new Visa card.
Rover's name on the card Cardmembers can personalise their cards, choosing from 35 popular dog breeds to display on the front of their card, and they may also opt to have their dog's name embossed on the card.
According to recent industry research, more than 40 million households in the USA have at least one dog and there are nearly 68 million dogs owned in the US alone. Other research has suggested that the total pet-sales market for the US is worth some US$30 billion each year.
