Guaranty launches rewards-based Amex gold card

US-based Guaranty Bank and American Express have introduced a co-branded Preferred Rewards Gold Card that expand an existing relationship between the companies.

American Express and Guaranty Bank are offering customers a co-branded American Express Preferred Rewards Gold Card, available from Guaranty branches throughout Texas and California.

The product has an annual fee of US$125 that will be waived for the first year, no pre-set spending limit, can be used at any location worldwide that accepts American Express Cards, and offers a number of rewards, benefits and services.

Rewards programme Card members are automatically enrolled in the American Express Membership Rewards programme, and earn points each time they use the card. Membership Rewards points have no expiry date, no earning cap, and can be redeemed through over 140 partners including airlines, hotels, resorts, car rental companies, restaurants and retailers.

Other benefits The American Express Charge Card benefits and services provided include retail protection (including purchase protection and buyer's assurance), travel protection (including travel accident insurance, roadside assistance and baggage insurance), access to a Global Assist hotline, lifestyle benefits (including access to the best seats at theatre, concert and sporting events - often before they go on general sale), dispute resolution, fraud protection and 24/7 customer service.

Extended relationship American Express will issue the new cards and service the accounts. Guaranty will market the card to existing bank customers through a variety of marketing channels.

The agreement expands an existing relationship between American Express and Guaranty. In October 2005, Guaranty introduced My Checking accounts offering American Express Membership Rewards as a feature of the programme. In November, American Express and Guaranty introduced a co-branded American Express Small Business Gold Card and a Platinum Business Cash Rebate Credit Card for the bank's small-business customers.
