Aeroplan adds redemption options with stored value cards

Aeroplan members can now redeem their Aeroplan Miles for prepaid cards that can be used at a variety of travel and entertainment venues across Canada and the US, providing tens of thousands of new loyalty redemption options.

Aeroplan is using prepaid, stored value cards that allow members to use their Aeroplan Miles toward a variety of new rewards across Canada and the US, split broadly into five categories: dining, spa, sports, entertainment, and getaways.

American Express technology The cards can be ordered online by any member through Aeroplan's web site, and are accepted at establishments where American Express cards are welcome, as well as for purchases made on the internet, by mail or by telephone.

Members simply present the card at time of payment (or enter its details on the internet for online purchases), as they would any other credit card, when making purchases at restaurants, spas, stadiums, theatres, hotels and golf courses.

Redemption levels Using their Aeroplan Miles, members can redeem for cards in two denominations: 14,000 Aeroplan Miles for a card worth Can$100, and 33,500 Aeroplan Miles for a card worth Can$250. As can be expected from an electronic stored value card, there is no minimum spending limit for each purchase: the card's total value may be used all at once or spread over several purchases.

According to Craig Landry, vice president for Aeroplan, "With the introduction of these reward cards, we've expanded the choices of reward redemptions from hundreds to tens of thousands."

Aeroplan's millions of members earn Aeroplan Miles with a network of over 60 merchant partners, representing more than 100 brands within the financial services, retail, and travel sectors.
