Aeroplan teams up with the 2015 Pan Am Games

In Canada, the popular Aeroplan coalition loyalty programme has been appointed as the official loyalty programme supplier for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games this Summer.

The deal with Aeroplan (owned and operated by Aimia Inc.) is intended to make the 2015 Games experience more rewarding for visitors.

"Having Aeroplan as part of our Games family aims to help get people engaged and excited about the Games," explained Saad Rafi, chief executive officer for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organising Committee. "With its existing relationships throughout Canada, Aeroplan is an ideal partner to help spread the word about the Games."

From January through March, Aeroplan partnered with Imperial, the Official Fuel and Convenience Store Supplier (and the owner of the Esso brand in Canada) to run an integrated online and on-site contest, in which members could swipe their Esso Extra or Aeroplan card at any Esso station across Canada (more than 1,700 stations in total) for a chance to win one of two grand prize trips to the Games.

The prizes included admission to three days of events, Opening or Closing Ceremonies, return airfare to/from Toronto, hotel accommodation, and Can$3,000 of spending money. Members could also submit their Esso Extra or Aeroplan Card number online (once per day) for a chance to win four tickets to an event.

The Toronto 2015 Pan American Games will take place from 10th to 26th July 2015, and the Parapan American Games will take place from 7th to 15th August 2015. The Games are funded by the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, as well as Lead Partner CIBC and other partners and sponsors.

Aeroplan's millions of members earn Aeroplan Miles with its network of over 75 world-class partners, representing more than 150 brands in the financial, retail and travel sectors. In 2014, approximately 2.6 million rewards were issued to members including more than 1.9 million flights on Air Canada and Star Alliance carriers, which offer travel to more than 1,300 destinations worldwide. In addition to flights, members also have access to over 1,000 exciting specialty, merchandise, hotel, car rental and experiential rewards.
