In the US, American Express has begun offering its Premier Rewards Gold card members new dining and travel benefits, adding more value and greater recognition with extra perks.
Start with immediate effect, both new and existing card members now receive double Membership Rewards points at restaurants nationwide, plus US$100 'airline fee credit' with one airline for incidental charges such as baggage fees.
Members also benefit from a personalised travel arrangements service with access to experienced travel advisors who can help with everything from a basic flight to the most complicated itinerary. In addition, there are now no foreign transaction fees levied by American Express.
These new benefits are in addition to the existing perks of membership, which include triple Membership Rewards points on flights purchased directly from airlines, double Membership Rewards points for purchases at US gas stations and US supermarkets, and access to The Hotel Collection, a collection of more than 350 properties around the world at which card members are eligible for a US$75 hotel amenities credit and a room upgrade if available.
The newly added benefits aim to help card members accumulate points faster, and they can use those points easily for a wide variety of rewards that fit a diverse range of interests. There are a number of ways to redeem points within the Membership Rewards programme, featuring more than 20 airline and hotel point transfer partners, as well as the ability to redeem points at point of sale with a number of online retailers, restaurants, taxis and car service.
The new annual fee for the Premier Rewards Gold Card is US$195 (up from US$175). Card Members can add up to 5 Additional Cards to a Premier Rewards Gold Card account at no additional cost.
According to Lisa Durocher, senior vice president for Consumer Charge Cards & Benefits at American Express, "Whether members are travelling, dining out or cooking at home, the updated Premier Rewards Gold card gives them more rewards."
