BA Miles extends its US footprint with Chase

The Mileage Company, the travel rewards firm behind Airmiles and BA Miles in the UK, has signed an agreement with Chase Card Services in the US to extend the travel benefit available to British Airways Visa Signature Card holders in the US.

The extra benefits being offered include a 25% increase to the BA Miles earning rate and a companion redemption voucher for one trans-Atlantic flight, awarded to all cardholders who spend US$30,000 or more in any calendar year. During the launch period (up to 16th November 2009) new cardholders also earn a bonus of 100,000 BA Miles.

While the new agreement follows The Mileage Company's securing of a permanent base in the US, the company says it will continue to work with business partners around the world to develop their loyalty programmes as normal.

According to Andrea Burchett, director of relationship marketing and insight, "Extended our footprint in the US market is a natural progression, and the timing is right because, in this challenging economic climate, it is more essential than ever to reward loyal customers."

While British Airways Visa Signature Card has been available to US consumers for some time, the enhanced benefits are expected to help Chase drive even stronger customer loyalty by helping consumers make their every day spending stretch further."

In summary, the new benefits include:

  • An improved earn rate of 1.25 BA miles for every US$1 spent, and 2.5 BA Miles for every US$1 spent on British Airways travel and holiday packages;
  • A companion travel redemption voucher for spending US$30,000 a year on the card. The voucher is valid for two years, and can be used regardless of which cabin class is booked;
  • A bonus of up to 100,000 BA Miles (equivalent to two round trip trans-Atlantic reward flights, or four domestic round trip tickets) for new cardmembers, made up of 50,000 miles after the first purchase and another 50,000 miles after spending at least US$2,000 during the first three months of card ownership;
  • New cardholders automatically become a member of the British Airways Executive Club and can earn additional BA Miles through partners such as Avis, Marriott, Hilton and over 120 retailers at the BA Miles eStore, or by taking up various offers from British Airways and Oneworld Alliance partners such as American Airlines.
