Barnes & Noble enhances loyalty with credit card
The US-based book seller Barnes & Noble has partnered with UK bank Barclays to launch a 'Barnes & Noble Member MasterCard' credit card, aimed at customers who are also members of the book seller's loyalty programme and offering cash savings on in-store and online purchases, along with points-based rewards for other purchases.
The new Member MasterCard has no annual fee, and customers can apply for the new card both online or offline (at Barnes & Noble stores). New cardholders receive a free US$25 Barnes & Noble gift card after making their first purchase with the card.
Cash savings The new Member MasterCard provides cash savings of 5% on purchases of almost any item at Barnes & Noble stores, as well as through the company's web-based store (BN.com).
To earn the 5% saving, members must use their Member MasterCard to pay, and savings are applied directly as a rebate on the credit card's monthly statement. The 5% saving can be earned in addition to the 10% member discount from the existing loyalty programme.
Points-based rewards For purchases outside of Barnes & Noble, members earn 1 Reward Point for every US$1 charged to the credit card.
As soon as 2,500 points are accumulated, the member automatically receives a US$25 Barnes & Noble gift card which can be redeemed for any Barnes & Noble purchase, either in-store or online.
According to Marie Toulantis, CEO for Barnes & Noble, "The combination of the existing benefits of our 'Member' loyalty programme, with the extra value provided by the Member MasterCard, enables members to save even more."
