CoolSavings changes name but keeps the pig

The interactive marketing services provider CoolSavings Inc. has changed its name to "Q Interactive Inc." in an attempt to reflect an evolution of the company's business to meet the growing needs of advertisers and publishers - with the 'Q' standing for both 'Quality' and 'Quantity'.

CoolSavings was founded in 1995. Two years later it launched its consumer savings web site, CoolSavings.com, to enable advertisers to deliver coupons and savings offers to registered users. After registering more than 22 million consumers on its site by the end of 2002, the company launched an advertising network (now known as The Q Network) to extend its consumer reach for its advertisers to hundreds of partner sites on the internet.

User base statistics The Q Network now reaches some 16 million unique consumers each month across the web sites of publishers such as Knight Ridder, Meredith Corporation, About.com and Weather.com, as well as Q Interactive's own branded web properties, CoolSavings.com and FreeStyleRewards.com. CoolSavings.com currently boasts a database of more than 45 million registered users.

The company has undeniably been an innovator in the field of printable and online coupons, although its business grew into the areas of lead generation, e-mail and loyalty and rewards services. Companies using the network for direct-to-consumer advertising currently include Wal-Mart, Walt Disney World, JC Penney, Gap, Procter & Gamble, Lending Tree, Netflix and BMG Music Service.

"The Q Interactive name and brand is the culmination of more than ten years of advancements in our service," said Matthew Wise, senior vice president of marketing for Q Interactive. And Matthew Moog, president and CEO of the newly rebranded Q Interactive, added: "Relevancy, derived from a combination of demographic, behavioural and transactional data, is the core driver of our service. But consumer permission and privacy protection are the prerequisites that make such relevancy possible."

Corporate changes The company's new corporate brand identity coincides with the December 2005 transaction by Landmark Communications Inc., through which Q Interactive became a private company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Landmark. Landmark is a privately held media company with national and international interests in newspapers, broadcasting, cable programming and electronic publishing.

The well-known CoolSavings brand name and Piggybank icon will continue to be the face of the company's consumer savings site, CoolSavings.com.
