Disney is transitioning Members of its Disney Movie Rewards program into a new program, Disney Movie Insiders. The change was announced during the recently held D23 Expo 2019, an annual celebration event hosted for Disney Movie Rewards members.
Disney Movie Insiders Program Announced
The new program will be live on September 26, 2019 and will include a new mobile app. All Disney Movie Rewards accounts that have been active (defined as a login) during the past 5 years will be migrated automatically to Disney Movie Insiders on the launch date. Any Member who wishes to join seamlessly should login into to their Disney Movie Awards account prior to September 23, 2019.
Members will continue to receive points for Disney films, either by seeing them in theaters or by purchasing them on home video and can now earn additional points for purchasing movie tickets and digital movies. The intent of the program as stated by Disney is to turn “fans into insiders”, a script that says “let’s build a stronger relationship” with Disney devotees and movie fans. Sounds like a compelling plot to us.
Donate Loyalty Points to Charity with New Feature
Originally launched in 2006, Disney Movie Rewards was ready for an update (remake in movie terms) and one of the most compelling new features is the ability to donate points to charity through Disney Team of Heroes, described as a program that “combines Disney’s beloved characters with the unparalleled creativity of its employees and cast members to bring classic stories to life in innovative ways that are designed to reduce the anxiety of a hospital stay.”

At a time when the way people consume entertainment media is changing, becoming more mobile, and threatening traditional distribution models, Disney Movie Insiders is launching to connect fans directly with Disney. That’s a loyalty-driven, brand-building strategy with blockbuster potential. We'll update this topic as more information becomes available.
