Expedia offers Nectar point redemptions

In the UK, travel company Expedia has announced that it intends to build upon its partnership with the Nectar coalition loyalty programme by offering its customers the chance to redeem Nectar points for online holiday bookings.

With Expedia becoming a Nectar points redemption partner, travellers can effectively reduce the cost of an online booking by exchanging as few as 2,000 Nectar points (which equates to 10 off the net booking value).

An additional 5 voucher can be collected for every 1,000 points earned until the customer has reached 20,000 points - after which additional points can be redeemed in increments of 5,000.

Customers are free to spend as many of their Nectar points as they want to for travel booked with Expedia.

"We believe that our partnership with the Nectar coalition significantly enhances our consumer value proposition," commented Sean Kell, Expedia's senior vice president and general manager of global online customer marketing.

Nectar points are exchangeable for a variety of Expedia products, including stand-alone flights, a choice of over 80,000 Expedia Special Rate hotels and a selection of 'create your own' holiday packages.

Members who collect points from Expedia earn 200 points when booking a flight, hotel or car hire separately, or 1,000 points for a package deal of any combination including flight and hotel, flight, hotel and car hire or a flight plus car hire.

Currently, more than half of all UK households collect Nectar points, and more than 1 billion worth of rewards have been redeemed since the programme's launch in 2002.
