Food Lion joins CoolSavings grocery network
In the US, Food Lion Supermarkets has signed a partnership agreement with online direct marketing company CoolSavings to join the internet-based 'Grocery Solutions Network', which distributes printable coupons, electronic coupons, and consumer-requested product samples.
As a part of the CoolSavings Marketing Network, the Grocery Solutions Network allows participating retailers to provide secure, targeted and personalised printable and electronic coupons through their branded web sites and customer loyalty programmes.
Visitors to the Food Lion web site will now be able to select home-printable coupons from major brands that they can redeem at their local Food Lion grocery store. The agreement brings the network's total number of participating stores to almost 4,000. In signing up, Food Lion joins other network partners such as Kroger, Giant Eagle, Meijer, Piggly Wiggly, America Online, iVillage, and About.com.
"As broadband penetration reaches nearly 50% in many markets, the internet is becoming an indispensable part of the grocery shopper's everyday life," said Christine McNicholas, senior vice president of retail partnerships at CoolSavings. "Our technology not only provides shoppers a choice of where they want to find savings, it gives grocery retailers a tool for building customer loyalty."
Food Lion currently operates more than 1,200 stores in 11 Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states. "Part of our strategic plan is to find better ways to serve customers by giving them the right mix of merchandise and offers," explained Bill Thomas, director of marketing at Food Lion. "We know that the internet is growing in importance in consumers' lives, and we are pleased to be able to make internet coupons available to them."
