GNC extends 20% offer to first week of each month

GNC started its Gold Card discount programme ten years ago to drive sales on its quietest day: it has now extended it to the first week of each month.

Vitamin and food supplement retailer, General Nutrition Centers (GNC),  is expanding its Gold Card membership programme this year, by offering a 20% discount to members for the first seven days of every month. Previously, its 4.7 million Gold Card members received a discount on the first Tuesday of every month. The company launched the programme ten years ago in California as a means to drive consumers to GNC stores on what was traditionally their slowest sales day - Tuesday.

Since then, the number of members has increased each year, with a 17% increase from 2000 to 2001. Gold Card membership also entitles customers to information on health, nutrition and wellness, with complimentary copies of the publications Let's Live and Physical. They can now find these magazines online as well.
