Oracle and DoCoMo team up for higher value mobile services

Oracle Corporation and NTT DoCoMo Inc. will be collaborating on the development and marketing of advanced mobile technology solutions. Their "higher value" mobile communication products will be pitched both at new markets and existing customers.

Oracle Corporation, a world-wide enterprise software provider, with Oracle Corporation Japan and NTT DoCoMo Inc. (a leading mobile communications operator in Japan), announced their intent to work together on the development of new advanced mobile enterprise solutions. By making use of NTT DoCoMo's mobile solution technology and previous experience in the field, along with Oracle's enterprise-wide software, together they aim to boost the growth of the mobile business market.

In particular, the companies plan to make use of NTT DoCoMo's 3G (third generation) mobile service (dubbed 'FOMA' - Freedom Of Mobile-multimedia Access), for clearer voice transmission and high-speed data communications. To deliver the new solutions, the project will also use the mobile, wireless and voice capabilities of Oracle's software, including Oracle's 9i database, application server, lite database and e-business suite.

According to Denise Lahey, senior vice president of Oracle's mobile products division, companies are seeking to adopt advanced mobile services that will reduce operational costs and improve efficiency. Lahey added that "by working with NTT DoCoMo, Oracle can provide customers with higher value mobile services, combining the power of FOMA 3G network technology with the advanced wireless and voice capabilities of our software."

NTT DoCoMo and Oracle aim to provide their enterprise customers with leading-edge mobile multimedia technology and solutions. Masao Nakamura, executive vice president of NTT DoCoMo's mobile multimedia division explains, "with the new high speed mobile networks available today, we see unprecedented possibilities for making this vision a reality." The new high value mobile services are a joint solution to a global need.
