High-speed hotel communications for ten dollars?

Guests staying in Marriott hotels in Washington, DC, are being offered a business traveller-friendly US$10-a-day package that provides broadband internet access and unlimited long distance calls from their hotel room.

The new service, Wired for Business, which includes high-speed internet access and unlimited local and long distance telephone calls within the US, is available at Marriott and Renaissance hotels and at some Courtyard, Residence Inn and SpringHill Suites hotels in the area.

Guests can request the service at the hotel's front desk during check-in, and any internet compatible computer equipment can make use of the broadband connection (which is quoted as being up to 50 times faster than a standard dial-up modem connection).

Future expansion The company is considering expanding the service to additional markets, having conducted successful trials in the region last year.

Lou Paladeau, Marriott's vice president of technology business development, commented, "Many of our guests expressed a preference for all of their communications needs to be bundled and offered for one price."
