Hotels.com celebrates Welcomes Rewards' birthdays

Welcome Rewards, the frequent guest loyalty programme of Hotels.com, is celebrating its second anniversary in Canada by offering Canadian leisure and business travellers one free night's accommodation for every ten nights stayed.

Originally launched in the US in 2008, then in Canada in 2010, the programme's global membership now exceeds 5 million travellers, all of whom can opt to redeem their reward points for free nights of accommodation at more than 85,000 hotels worldwide, with no blackout periods.

For the current promotion, the free night does not include taxes and fees, and is valued at the average rate of the ten nights stayed although members do have the option to use their free night for a higher-rate room by paying the difference. Welcome Rewards credits never expire as long as there is activity on the member's account at least once every 12 months.

To celebrate the anniversary, Hotels.com is also offering Canadian members up to 40% off selected hotel bookings made through Hotels.com via the Welcome Rewards Anniversary Sale. As part of its two-year milestone celebration, Hotels.com hosted a 'Bedventure' in Toronto, at which visitors could jump on a giant bed in Yonge-Dundas Square and be instantly be transported to one of five popular travel destinations via 'green screen' video technology.

At the same time in the US, Welcome Rewards has begun celebrating its fourth anniversary with the same 'one free night for every ten stayed' offer, and the same 40% discount on selected hotel bookings made through Hotels.com during the promotional period.

To mark its four-year milestone, Hotels.com invited a number of prominent American bloggers to experience the benefits of the programme first-hand, and received "overwhelmingly positive feedback".
