LMUK's loyalty services arm adopts new IT infrastructure

Loyalty Management Services (LMS), the LMUK spin-off company that provides outsourced loyalty scheme support services, has contracted IT utility service provider Savvis for the infrastructure that delivers managed loyalty programmes and services for its business partners.

LMS was created by Loyalty Management UK Ltd (operator of the UK-based Nectar coalition loyalty scheme) to market the services the company developed to run Nectar. These services include loyalty systems, data warehouse management and data hosting, advanced analytics, direct marketing services, and campaign management, and all vendor and supplier communications and points collection. LMS can also provide components of its programme on a piece-by-piece basis or assist with targeted campaigns.

Nectar's own engine The LMS loyalty system is based on a proprietary database engine that handles billions of transactions and over 25 million member profiles for the Nectar programme. LMS' handles one of the largest and most sophisticated campaign management capabilities in the world. Its range of services extends to data warehousing, leading customer analysis techniques and campaign management.

Flexible utility model LMS is to deploy Savvis' Managed IT Utility Services to run its business applications (using the company's utility storage and blade servers, virtual switches, load balancers, and firewalls). These utility services will provide LMS with a scalable infrastructure with a view to cost savings and matching network capacity to demand. LMS will also use the company's global Tier-1 internet connection to connect to its 50+ business partners across the United Kingdom.

Mark Brighton, commercial director for LMS, said: "In early 2005, we realised that a utility platform would help us fulfil our vision to provide dynamic, cost-effective loyalty solutions. The Savvis utility model allows our clients to tailor both availability and performance to seasonal demands."
