AMC, Sony launch NFT rewards for Spider-Man movie launch

Highlight: American movie theater company AMC Entertainment has partnered with Sony Pictures to launch a non-fungible token (NFT) project as a reward for the advance purchase of opening-day tickets to Sony’s new Spider-Man franchise, No Way Home. Cub Studios created the animations and 100 designs will be used to mint over 86,000 digital assets on the WAX blockchain to give away to the first ticket purchasers of movie tickets in all American locations. The initiative is being used as a reward for loyalty. The reward NFT is only available to members of the AMC Investor Connect group, which is a platform that updates AMC stockholders on company news and special offers, and for members of the AMC Stubs Premiere or A-List. Members of Investor Connect must be part of AMC Stubs, a rewards scheme where members pay $15 per year and gain access to a point-earning system that enables cinema fans to exchange the points for exclusive perks and prizes.

DATA & PRIVACY NEWS

Amazon facing pressure over data privacy ahead of holiday shopping season

Highlight: Amazon is again facing criticism for collecting consumer data. “When we think of Amazon, you might think of them as the shopping behemoth,” said attorney and cybersecurity expert Leeza Garber to The National Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat. “But in addition to that, they've made their way into almost every aspect of our lives, with their Amazon Prime television, their streaming music platform, with their smart cameras, with their smart speakers, with their fitness trackers. And with all of these ways they can get all different kinds of information about us.” Legislators are turning against Amazon, according to Garber, in an attempt to control Big Tech when it comes to privacy and antitrust issues.

China Freezes New Tencent Apps, Updates For Data Privacy Review

Highlight: Tencent Holdings Ltd. has been ordered to stop rolling out new apps, as China’s tech industry regulator reviews their compliance with new privacy laws introduced this month, according to people with knowledge of the matter… China on Nov. 1 began implementing a new Personal Information Protection Law that more tightly governs how tech companies handle user data, part of a broader effort by Beijing to rein in its internet giants and wrest control over the vast reams of data they collect. Tencent has been targeted by the MIIT because nine of its products were found on four previous occasions to violate data protection rules, triggering the freeze, the people said.

TRAVEL & HOSPITALITY NEWS

Qantas changing frequent flyer program to reward eco-friendly flyers

Highlight: Qantas has announced a suite of changes to its loyalty program to reward environmentally conscious flyers. "Qantas will be the first airline in the world to reward frequent flyers for being more sustainable in the air and on the ground," it said in a statement. "Members will need to complete at least five sustainable activities across six areas – flying, travel, lifestyle, sustainable purchases, reducing impact and giving back - each year to achieve Green tier status. "Once achieved, members will be rewarded with benefits like bonus Qantas Points or status credits.
