Loyalty system for small to medium retailers

A new turnkey but customisable loyalty system is being marketed by franchise to small and medium retailers in Europe.

SCM Microsystems, Inc has signed an agreement with Switzerland's City Card Systems AG to deliver 10,000 merchant loyalty programme smart card terminals. Basel-based City Card Systems supplies low cost, easy-to-customise systems which allow small and medium size retailers to implement their own loyalty programmes. The solution supplied is complete, and includes loyalty cards, software that awards and tracks loyalty points, promotional marketing material and terminals. Retailers can customise all aspects of the loyalty card, from the graphic design to technical features. The customer information collected can be used to build a customer database, forecast orders or plan promotional campaigns.

The terminal that SCM will supply to City Card was designed specifically to optimise the usefulness of multifunctional smart card applications in a retail environment. It is programmable and can be connected through a modem to a telephone or through a serial port to the cash register or PC, or it can be used in stand-alone mode. In addition, SCM is also providing a software development kit that allows City Card and its franchise partners to easily port, further develop and extend the application on SCM's platform.

Based on a franchise model, the City Card system will be marketed throughout Switzerland and the German speaking countries within Europe.
