Musicland opens auction site for loyal customers

The US speciality music retailer, Musicland Group Inc., has added an auction web site to its existing 'Replay' loyalty programme, through which members have the opportunity to bid on exclusive entertainment-related merchandise.

The new Showbidz auction site has been set up to offer Replay members exclusive goods such as music stars' guitars, photographs and jackets.

Each month, the auctions will include more than 50 such items, among which are autographed memorabilia, concert tickets, backstage passes, one-of-a kind merchandise and artist meet-and-greet sessions. Merchandise highlights for Showbidz's inaugural month include:

  • Country music artist Joe Nichols' autographed Guitar and CD;
  • A signed The Cure guitar;
  • A School of Rock jean jacket;
  • A number of limited-edition Shrek 2 pictures;
  • A Love Actually DVD signed by Hugh Grant.

Authenticity assured "Showbidz offers Replay members access to bid on exclusive collector items from a credible source, which helps with the authenticity concerns often associated with online auctions," explained Musicland's CEO, Eric Weisman. "We created the site to strengthen our relationship with our customers and differentiate Replay from other retail loyalty programmes."

Replay members may bid on these items by using the Replay Showbidz Bucks they earn from purchasing products from Sam Goody, Suncoast or Media Play retail stores or web sites, and from renewing their Replay membership or reserving upcoming music, movie or game titles. Members will continue to earn Replay Reward Points as well as Replay Showbidz Bucks.

A little background Musicland's loyalty programme was launched in 1993 as the Producer's Club for the company's Suncoast retail stores, and was renamed in 1998 when it expanded to include Sam Goody and Media Play stores. The programme now claims approximately 2 million members.
