NCR unveils POS loyalty and security standards
A new point-of-sale loyalty and security system has been unveiled by NCR Corporation and smart card technology firm TranStar Systems. The two companies are promoting their combined technology as a new standard for retail payment solutions.
The system was launched and demonstrated at the NRF Annual Conference in New York, using NCR's Advanced Store software and RealPOS terminals, demonstrating how smart card technology can aid retailers that want to speed up sales, increase security, and improve their data collection ability.
Greater demand "In the past twelve months we have seen a huge surge in interest for marketing programmes incorporating smart card technology, as retailers seek to enhance the customer experience and increase brand loyalty," said TranStar's CEO, Mike Radlovic.
TranStar's system is a loyalty card and gift card programme that allows retailers to conduct customised marketing, offering instant rewards and customer benefits programmes.
Increasing spend "The combination of TranStar's system with our Advanced Store point of sale software provides a loyalty solution that can help drive incremental revenue and increased margins," said NCR's director of general merchandise industry marketing, Dick Arnold.
According to Arnold, many retailers already appreciate the ability of the smart card to bring customers back to the retail location with greater frequency, and to often increase their total spend for each purchase.
Wireless features TranStar also exhibited its latest wireless loyalty technology - a next generation service that is delivered to an individual customer's mobile telephone. This extension of the traditional loyalty programme model is seen as a logical next step for consumers who are increasingly adopting the wireless lifestyle.
The new technology is built on an open platform which allows point of sale solutions to be customised to the retailer's specific technology needs.
