The UK's Nectar coalition loyalty programme is launching a co-branded credit card with American Express. The new 'Nectar Credit Card from American Express' represents the first co-branded Nectar product, and offers double Nectar points at Nectar retailers, and 1 point per 1 spent anywhere else.
From mid-September 2005, those holding the Nectar Credit Card from American Express will be able to 'double dip' at Nectar retailers such as Sainsbury's, Debenhams, Adams Kids and eBookers by paying with the credit card and presenting their Nectar loyalty card to earn 4 points for every 1 spent (that's 2 points for every 1 spent on the credit card, plus 2 points for every 1 spent via the loyalty card).
Rob Gierkink, CEO for Loyalty Management UK Ltd (LMUK), said: "The partnership with American Express will be a tremendous asset to Nectar, doubling the value of the programme for collectors."
Double-dipping family
This new partnership with American Express is expected to strengthen Nectar's presence in the financial services arena. But apart from financial services, Gierkink points out that programme members can potentially earn double Nectar points on 40% of their total household purchases, including groceries, petrol, department store purchases and utilities. LMUK anticipates that this figure will rise to 70% as additional partners are signed up.
