Nectar launches 'Daily Deals' in the UK

The UK-based coalition loyalty programme, Nectar, has launched its 'Nectar Daily Deals' initiative that offers daily discounted deals on products and services from popular national brands and local merchants.

To support the new initiative, Nectar secured exclusive deals that range from dining to homeware, gadgets, travel and electronics, helping members save money while also allowing them to earn Nectar points.

To celebrate the launch, the programme has offered a selection of one-off deals including Piaggio scooters for less than half price (at £1,000) and Ford KA cars (normally sold at £8,725) for less than half price.

The Nectar Daily Deals programme launched with a number of national and London-based deals, while deals for other cities are to be announced over the remainder of 2012 and throughout 2013. Customers can subscribe to Nectar Daily Deals to receive one daily email containing all relevant local, national and Nectar specific deals.

Nectar cardholders earn 100 bonus points for signing up (until the end of August 2012), and then 2 points for every £1 spent on any deal. Non Nectar cardholders can also subscribe to the service and make purchases, but they need to register with Nectar in order to collect points on their purchases.

In fact, Nectar Daily Deals is not even limited to those who subscribe to the service: anyone can browse and purchase the deals without even having to provide their email address, but they will not earn points.

Nectar Daily Deals has agreed to comply with the code of conduct put in place by the Global Daily Deals Association, which means:

  • All deals offered will be fulfilled, regardless of consumer uptake, as Nectar Daily Deals does not rely on a group buying mechanism;
  • Units available will be clearly outlined with each deal;
  • Items will be despatched within the delivery period specified;
  • A 'no quibble' seven day money back guarantee is offered;
  • A 'street view' function on location maps has been added (where possible) so that customers can see an establishment before purchasing a service;
  • One in ten out of all deals offered will be at a 60% discount.

Following the launch in London, the service will be rolled out to an additional four major UK cities (those being Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow and Nottingham) in the autumn of 2012, with more to follow later.

According to James Frost, Nectar's marketing director, "We're able to call upon our 500+ partners to offer discounts on products and services. There's also the added benefit that our 18.5 million cardholders can earn 2 points for every £1 spent on Nectar Daily Deals."

Nectar, which is owned by loyalty management firm Aimia, has given back more than £1.7 billion worth of rewards to collectors during its first ten years, including money off shopping, travel, days out, and cinema tickets.
