Nectar runs new card game at Sainsbury's

The UK coalition loyalty programme Nectar has launched a new 'Swipe to Win' promotion through the supermarket chain and founding partner, Sainsbury's, with more than 18 million game cards being distributed to consumers who use their Nectar card with purchases of £10+ (or £5+ at Sainsbury's Local stores).

The promotion is running until the last day of July 2007, and each game card provides a one-in-three chance of winning instantly in-store. But for members who do not win a prize in-store, the game card also contains a unique code that gives them an extra chance to win online at the programme's web site.

Adding excitement online According to John Sheekey, marketing director for programmer operator Loyalty Management Group (LMG), "Working with ePrize, we are able to extend the offline Nectar programme to go online as well, to add more excitement and more ways to engage with our points collectors."

The online component of the promotion, created and managed by interactive promotions company ePrize, links the in-store promotion to provide Nectar collectors with more chances to win prizes. Visitors to the online promotion site simply enter their game card's unique code and their e-mail address. They can then play a click-and-win game by popping virtual balloons for the chance to win one of the thousands of prizes on offer. The game immediately notifies players if they are winners, and confirms with an e-mail.

Prizes on offer Members have the chance to win one of 10 grand prizes of 100,000 Nectar points, or 1,000 first prizes of 1,000 Nectar points, or 10,000 second prizes of 100 Nectar points.

Any Nectar points won are redeemable online for items such as electronic goods and DVDs. Members who do not win Nectar points prizes will not lose out, though - instead they will receive either a voucher for £8 off adult admission at Tussauds attractions, or eight free rentals from the Blockbuster.co.uk online entertainment store.

Background Retailers and service companies involved in Nectar now include Sainsbury's, Debenhams, BP, Ford, EDF Energy, Hertz, Thomson, Brewers Fayre, Beefeater, American Express, Talk Talk, Dollond & Aitchison, the AA, Thomson Directories and Gala Bingo. The Nectar eStores online shopping portal also provides points for purchases through over 80 online retailers including Amazon, eBay, Dell and CD Wow.
