Nectar - the online reinforcements are coming
One week after the launch of the UK's Nectar loyalty programme, consumers hoping to register online are facing a fresh delay. The problems do not, however, affect customers' ability to accumulate points, even if they have not yet registered their cards.
Following unexpectedly high demand for the web site and online registration facility, the programme's operator, Loyalty Management UK (LMUK), has temporarily suspended the site's main features while racing to reinforce it to cope with the extra load.
Consumers may still register by completing and sending in their application form by post. They can then call the Nectar help line to have 100 bonus points added to their account - a benefit promised to those who register online.
No need to wait Until the bolstered site is fully tested and re-launched, users will have to wait to access their account details and balance online. But that's all they have to wait for - the problem does not affect the collection of Nectar points from the programme's retail partners (BP, Barclaycard, Debenhams and Sainsbury's), and does not affect reward redemptions for those who have already registered.
A spokesperson for LMUK said, "Customers can use their cards to collect points even before registering. They don't have to wait at all. As soon as they have the card in their hands, they can start earning points."
