NY Times launches TimesPoints loyalty scheme
The New York Times has launched its new loyalty scheme (in partnership with the Rewards Network and Advantex Marketing) for its loyal re-subscribers, called TimesPoints, allowing members to earn points for purchases at thousands of participating restaurants, hotels and online retailers.
The points that subscribers earn can be redeemed for New York Times home delivery subscriptions, merchandise from The New York Times Store, or for gift cards from selected advertisers of The New York Times (such as Bloomingdales, Apple iTunes Store and Barnes and Noble).
TimesPoints members can register up to three of their credit or debit cards on the TimesPoints web site, then use those cards to pay for goods at participating merchants to earn points for their TimesPoints account.
Earning points Through the publisher's agreement with Rewards Network (for dining and hotels) and Advantex Marketing (for online shopping), points can be earned as follows:
- At restaurants Members earn at least 10% of their total dining bill, including tax and tip, converted to TimesPoints at 9,000 restaurants across the USA and Canada.
- At hotels Members earn 5% of their room-rate bill, converted into TimesPoints, for qualifying stays at more than 10,000 hotels across the USA and Canada.
- Online shopping Members earn a variable percentage of their purchase, converted to TimesPoints, when shopping online at more than 200 participating e-retailers (such as Brooks Brothers, The Sharper Image, Target and Best Buy).
Redeeming points Each point earned is worth the equivalent of US$1 in eligible products and services when members redeem TimesPoints for subscription or rewards from The New York Times.
G. Randall Munger, chairman and CEO for Advantex, said: "Shopping online has become part of many people's busy lives, and is making significant gains in popularity every year. TimesPoints Online Shops connects members with hundreds of major e-retailers in the United States, who will offer TimesPoints on purchases."
