PayBack boosts rewards with Olympic medals

The popular German coalition loyalty programme, PayBack, has announced details of its new 'Collect Gold Points' campaign for the Summer Olympics, through which members will earn extra loyalty points when German athletes win Olympic medals.

From 8th to 24th August 2008, the programme will boost the number of points earned by members for each gold medal won by German athletes in the Beijing Olympics.

Bonus levels Members will earn double points for two gold medals, triple points for three gold medals, quadruple points for four gold medals, and so on. In the 2004 Olympics in Athens, German athletes took a total of 13 gold medals, so the potential payback for consumers in 2008 is significant.

Members of the PayBack programme need to register online for the Collect Gold Points promotion, and a daily table of medal wins will appear both on the programme's web site and in the BILD newspaper throughout the Olympic games.

Olympic fever? A variety of Olympic games-related topics are being covered by the bonus programme on the PayBack web site, including the opportunity for members to win prizes such as a trip to Beijing.

The bonus programme also extends to points redemption activities, as members redeeming points for rewards can also take part in a 'PayBack Rewards Olympics' programme, in which they open a 'virtual fortune cookie' that comes with each reward for a chance to win a dream house, a luxury cruise, or one of 300,000 smaller instant prizes.

Olympic support Following its launch in March 2000, PayBack also supported the German Olympic teams in Athens in 2004 and in Turin in 2006.

The programme has again launched a charity campaign in aid of Deutsche Sporthilfe (German Sports Aid) for the games in Beijing. This time, points are being collected for Deutsche Sporthilfe through a modified ping pong game called 'Gold Pong'.

Currently over 60% of German households have a PayBack card, which is now the third most common card in the country, after health insurance and EC payment cards.
