PeopleSoft unveils university CRM system

PeopleSoft Inc. has launched its new enterprise CRM system for higher education establishments, allowing public and private colleges and universities to create more effective interaction strategies throughout the student lifecycle, including recruitment, registration, retention, fundraising, and continued education.

PeopleSoft's new Enterprise CRM for Higher Education is a student relationship management solution that helps educational institutions achieve their recruitment and enrolment targets, improve student retention, maximise alumni donations, and re-engage prospects for continued education.

The solution combines the firm's enterprise-level marketing, tele-marketing, and online marketing applications with its Student Administration application, as well as contact centre, field service, and help desk functionality. Some components of the new solution were co-developed with systems integrator CIBER Inc.

Budgetary pressure As budgetary shortfalls and competitive pressures changing the way colleges and universities work to attract, retain, and serve their students, the new CRM solution aims to help them successfully manage those pressures by building stronger relationships with prospects, students, parents, alumni, and sponsors.

Retaining students can be harder than it might seems. For example, Andy Drefahl, manager of CRM and knowledge management technologies for DePaul University (the largest Catholic university in the US with more than 23,000 students across seven campuses), explained: "Our first PeopleSoft e-mail campaign had a 50% response rate and helped us detect and engage dozens of at-risk students."

The Enterprise CRM for Higher Education solution will be generally available to higher education institutions in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Latin America in the third quarter of 2004.
