Restaurant.com's gift certificate with a twist
A new gift certificate concept - with a twist - has been launched by the US restaurant marketing firm, Restaurant.com. While usually offering online restaurant deal certificates for up to 75% less than their face value, the firm's new 'Megacertificate' offers consumers one big gift certificate that can be exchanged for many other restaurant-specific certificates.
This approach allows the recipient of the gift to choose their own gift certificates from thousands of individual restaurants, rather than being tied to just one chosen by the person giving the gift. The Megacertificate also provides the sender with the ability to enter their own personal message to be displayed on the certificate.
Browse, buy, print Through Restaurant.com's web site, consumers can browse through thousands of restaurants offering gift certificates and make an educated choice by reviewing the menu and wine list, read descriptions of the restaurants, view photographs of the location, and even take 'virtual tours' of restaurants.
After deciding on a restaurant, the consumer purchases the appropriate certificate from the site and can immediately print it out, ready for use as a discount voucher or special offer token. Alternatively, gift certificates can be e-mailed for use at a later time.
Flexible gifts "Over the years we have learned that our gift certificates are very popular around gift-giving seasons," explained Steve Savad, vice chairman for Restaurant.com. "The Megacertificate makes our dining certificates a more compelling gift and even easier to give than before." As one avid online consumer commented: "I love Restaurant.com gift certificates. They make great last-minute gifts for people, and they encourage me to try new restaurants I might not have otherwise tried."
