Shell Platinum MasterCard gains extra rewards
Shell Oil Products US has announced a new credit card incentive and marketing campaign to help raise awareness among consumers about the benefits of its existing Shell Platinum MasterCard, with the objective of boosting the number of active cardholders and increasing customer loyalty.
The main attractions offered to consumers by the new promotion are year-round rebates for Shell fuel and additional rebates for purchases at all other outlets.
New card benefits Consumers who open a new card account between 1st October and 31st December 2007 will earn a 5% rebate on Shell fuel purchases, plus a 5% rebate for 60 days on the first US$2,000 in purchases made anywhere else.
The timing of the campaign is good, with the holiday season coming up at the same time. At the end of the 60-day period, new cardholders will earn a 5% rebate on Shell fuel purchases and a 1% rebate on other purchases. All rebates are automatically credited to customers' monthly statement, and are put toward future Shell fuel purchases made using the card.
Encouraging loyalty According to Elizabeth Hudson, manager of the Shell MasterCard programme, "This promotion, as well as the national advertising and communications campaign, was created to emphasize the card's value to consumers if they use it as their 'top of wallet' card."
Other benefits available to cardholders include a lack of card fees for the first year, with other years' fees being waived when nine or more Shell fuel purchases are made during the year. The card, which is issued by Citi, also comes with online account management, a 'lost wallet service', and other normal card features.
