Singapore nets loyal cash-card users

The Singapore card payment services firm, NETS, has launched a new loyalty rewards programme through which consumers earn points toward monthly sweepstakes in return for choosing to use the NETS service for ATM and CashCard transactions.

The new NETS Rewards programme applies to every NETS ATM or CashCard transaction consumers make, whether for retail, government, ERP or parking transactions.

"The programme rewards people for making payment by NETS or CashCard from anywhere they are accepted; we want Singaporeans to discover new places and new ways to use NETS payment, and to create some 'buzz' at the 19,000+ locations in Singapore where people can say 'NETS it'," said NETS CEO, Ms Poh Mui Hoon.

Sweepstake rewards NETS Rewards members get 1 point for every S$0.50 (approx. US$0.30) spent using either NETS ATM or CashCards. Every 30 points accumulated earns participants one free entry into a monthly sweepstake, from which five winners each month receive cash and prizes worth up to S$1,000 each.

Participants also earn entries for a S$88,000 'grand lucky draw' which will be held in December 2004. NETS expects to announce other promotions for programme members throughout the year. Specifically, later in 2004, users of the eNETS suite of internet and mobile payment services will also become eligible for the rewards programme.

Ambitious plan This, according to NETS, is just the beginning of an ambitious, long-term reward scheme. "NETS Rewards aims to become one of the most accessible and exciting rewards programmes in Singapore. The wonderful thing is that almost anyone who has a Bank Card or CashCard can participate," added Ms Poh. "And there's no need to carry an extra card."

To add significant value for its merchants, NETS is also soon to launch a NETS Rewards Star Merchant programme, through which customers can earn double points by shopping at merchant outlets that are members of the programme.

Building awareness The new consumer-oriented loyalty programme is the latest effort by NETS to build greater public awareness of electronic payment through its participating banks. Other campaigns in the past have included the unveiling of new corporate and product branding, and the launch of a "NETS it!" advertising and promotional campaign in December 2003.

To enrol in NETS Rewards, consumers can register online or mail in a registration form obtained from selected merchants (such as NTUC FairPrice, Cold Storage, and 7-Eleven convenience stores). Online registrants will receive a bonus of 80 points plus next day activation of their registered cards. Each programme member can register up to a maximum of five bank cards and five CashCards.
