Catalina Marketing has launched Checkout Smart Rewards, a programme which helps supermarkets offer targeted savings privately to each customer.

Retailers can deliver stealth savings to individual customers with Florida-based Catalina Marketing's Checkout Smart Rewards. With enhanced graphics and a new coupon format, supermarkets can offer customers savings via personalised shopping lists. These offers do not need to be advertised publicly in the press, so competitors are not aware of them - and even if they do seed a retailer's customer base, they are still not aware of who gets what offer, and how deep the discounts are in each case. Clearly, this makes it much more difficult to reply with a better offer. The offers are available on the customer's next shopping trip, and can promote cross shopping, category growth and pantry loading programmes. National manufacturer offers can be targeted at specific customers as part of the programme.
