Travelocity teams with Points.com to 'book with points'
Points International has signed a deal with online travel provider Travelocity to develop 'Book with Points' - a system that allows loyalty programme members to redeem miles and points from various reward programmes to book travel services.
With the new product Points International says it aims to tap directly into the estimated US$15 billion North American and European reward travel industry.
Any time, any ticket The Book with Points system will allow loyalty programme members access to Travelocity's online travel booking engine. They can use their points or miles to book and redeem for award travel as if they were purchasing their travel using cash rather than loyalty points and miles.
According to Rob MacLean, Points International's CEO, "While millions of flights, hotel nights and other rewards are provided every year, there continues to be demand for even more access and availability. Our agreement with Travelocity is positioned to help loyalty programmes finally follow through on the 'any award, any time' travel promise."
Launch and expansion The Book with Points option is to be made available both through the Points.com consumer portal and as a stand-alone, branded product for individual loyalty programme operators.
The two companies expect to have the product operational on the Points.com portal during Q4 2006. The product, fully supported by Travelocity's customer service, will initially focus on hotels, and then broaden over time.
