US Airways & Barclays launch new loyalty MasterCard

US Airways and Barclays have launched a co-branded 'US Airways Dividend Miles World MasterCard' loyalty credit card offering cardholders an immediate free flight through an activation bonus of 15,000 miles, and a balance transfer bonus of 10,000 miles.

The US Airways Dividend Miles World MasterCard provides the usual brace of features, such as 0% interest for the first six months on balance transfers, and waived annual fees for the first two years. But it also provides a good incentive: cardholders earn 50% more Dividend Miles during their first year using the card, at 3 miles for every US$1 spent on US Airways purchases, and 1.5 miles for every US$1 spent on all other purchases using the card.

Promotional flights For the card's launch promotion, cardholders will have the option to purchase US$0.50 air tickets to selected US Airways destinations throughout the month of February 2006. These flights will be available on a limited, first-come-first-served basis. To qualify, consumers must sign up for the credit card during the month of January 2006, and the terms & conditions and destination list are posted on a special web site.

America West card changes Although US Airways will also continue to support its current portfolio of credit cards, consumers who previously used America West credit cards are no longer earning FlightFund miles from those cards, and they must now apply for the new card to continue earning miles for their credit card spending. In fact, consumers may earn Dividend Miles using any of the US Airways credit cards.

In Spring 2006, FlightFund and Dividend Miles will finally be combined into one programme, and miles earned in either programme will be combined into a single US Airways Dividend Miles account.
