Western Union Hong Kong launches loyalty scheme

In Hong Kong, money transfer specialist Western Union has launched a new 'Instant Phone Time' customer loyalty programme, with help from customised calling card provider IDT.

The Instant Phone Time programme rewards Western Union's frequent customers with free international phone calls through IDT's calling card platform.

Gold card benefit Holders of the Western Union Gold Card (a loyalty programme for regular Western Union customers) are instantly awarded free call credit whenever they transfer money to designated locations.

Cardholders can then make international calls using a unique PIN code provided by IDT. The free calls may be made to almost any country in the world.

Expansion planned Additional Western Union customers are expected to begin benefiting from the programme in the near future, as discussions are reportedly underway to extend the loyalty programme to other countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

IDT currently sells an average of 33 million calling cards around the world each month, having serviced some 24 billion international call minutes for its customers in the fiscal year 2005. According to Isabella Lau, general manager for Western Union in Hong Kong, "We are confident that IDT's commitment to reliability and quality will enable us to deliver the best possible experience for our customers."
