Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) announced that Avion Rewards, the largest proprietary loyalty program in Canada, has been recognized with two 2023 International Loyalty Awards, including "International Loyalty Program of the Year (Global Regional Winner - Americas)" and "Best Loyalty/Benefits in a Financial Product". The International Loyalty Awards, which were held in London, United Kingdom on June 13, are highly regarded and competitive within the loyalty industry, and celebrate excellence, innovation, and best practice on a global scale.
Doppelgänger joins forces with Comarch to launch new loyalty program for customers
Italian menswear retailer Doppelgänger has partnered with Comarch to launch its first loyalty programme: engaging both in-store and e-commerce customers, the program will be built with an omnichannel approach in mind and allow Doppelgänger to connect with its customers in line with its brand mission of offering affordable luxury. “Whilst the main touchpoint for Doppelgänger's loyalty members will be a mobile app, through which our customers will be able to accumulate points that translate into discounts and rewards, it was paramount for us to create an omnichannel program that conveyed the idea of an exclusive community", said Federico Dezi, E-commerce Manager at Doppelgänger.

Tim Hortons to launch credit card through mobile rewards app
Tim Hortons is launching a credit card that can be used through its mobile app, the latest move into an increasingly competitive rewards space. Tims Financial is a new division of Tim Hortons that will offer a no-annual-fee Mastercard powered by Neo Financial, the company said in a press release Wednesday. The card will be launched in the coming months, but interested customers can sign up for a waitlist on the Tims Financial website.

A report from South Africa shares that in a bid to make ends meet, loyalty programs have become particularly important as experts explain that they help businesses retain customers, increase customer engagement and boost sales. Kenya Airways’ New Asante Rewards Loyalty Program
Kenya Airways has today announced the details of its new loyalty program, named Asante Rewards (“asante” means “thank you” in Swahili). Previously, Kenya Airways has used Air France-KLM Flying Blue as its loyalty program but an announcement on that site updates members to the new arrangement. Amazon Payment Services Releases Research On Generation Z Attitudes Toward Digital Payments
Amazon Payment Services, a regional leader in digital payments across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, shares research on the spending preferences of those born between 1997 and 2012, known as Generation Z (Gen Z). The white paper, “Understanding Generation Z,” compares the spending preferences of Gen Z with that of other generations, such as those born between 1981 and 1996, otherwise known as “millennials”, and discusses the influence of Gen Z as its spending power grows. Amazon Aims to Expand Payments Business in India
Amazon Pay has yet to secure a spot on the payments leaderboard in India, however, with a renewed focus on mobile wallets, the company aims to compete with industry leaders like Paytm Payments Bank and WhatsApp. Data from the Reserve Bank of India revealed that Amazon Pay created 62.8 million wallets as of April 2023, which pales in comparison to market leader Paytm Payments Bank which boasts more than 500 million wallets in India. Amazon is making strategic moves to gain footing with its Amazon Pay service, according to The Economic Times.

How do Today’s Shoppers Define Loyalty?
A recent study from 84.51°, Kroger’s retail data science, insights, and media company, is taking a deeper look at what drives customer loyalty today, as well as how brands and retailers can respond. According to the study, more than 30% of shoppers define loyalty based on their purchase behavior, 24% define it based on consideration and 43% base it on preference. “To a majority of shoppers, brand loyalty means buying a brand ‘most often’ while being open to purchasing other brands,” the study states. “The same can be said for retailer loyalty. Only 6% of shoppers defined retailer loyalty as shopping at one retailer for all their needs, while 29% described it as a retailer where they shop ‘most often.’” Read more here.
